Jesus on the stormy sea creates a most dramatic teaching moment. On a storm tossed sea, fear was flooding the boat of disciples, and fear flooded the heart of Peter who was attempting to walk on water. Our fears are the foremost obstacle to our faith life. Like Peter, we want to ‘walk on water’ but the waves beat against our faith and the storm of inner fears makes us cry out in desperation to Jesus. We take our eyes off of Jesus and focus on our fears. Jesus asks us today, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” Let us keep on focus on Jesus and not on our fears.
