What a change from the a scene ago where Peter was given the keys to the kingdom. Here he is being called Satan for thinking in the way of men and not in the way of God. What a quick fall from grace! We are to be consoled with the knowledge that the mighty have fallen and to understand that we will too. In this knowledge we know that the mercy of God rises before the sun. Our God knows his creatures and the loftiness of our intentions along with the frailty of our nature. Jesus’ advises his disciples in the face of this burning criticism of Peter to follow him, not lead him. God knows what he is doing. And in time we will come to know his plan and his way.
