Living the Prayer of Jesus through Racial Sobriety

Matthew 22:15-21

The gospel passage is the first of six that capture the great wisdom teachings of Christianity. In this first Sunday, the trap set by the Pharisees include listing the attributes of Jesus as a person who is truthful, explaining “the way of God in accordance with the truth,” and not concerned with the opinion of others or their status. They then ask a question in which the truth will place Jesus in conflict with the political order and bring about criminal charges. Jesus calls them “hypocrites” and slips through their clever plot. The situation demonstrates again that the workers of evil detest the witnesses to the truth. As we witness to racial sobriety we will be tested. Let us pray for deliverance in the hour of our entrapment by the hypocrites around us who can also invoke the name of Jesus!
