Living the Prayer of Jesus through Racial Sobriety
Luke 24:13-35
The road to Emmaus story is one of the most dramatic scriptures of the New Testament. The discouraged disciples find new hope in the presence of a stranger. When they discover in the stranger the resurrected Jesus, their joy sets their feet to running back to Jerusalem and proclaiming the resurrection. How sad are our churches today? Is it because we are like the disciples on the Emmaus road cannot recognize Christ when he looks different than we expect? Who have we excluded that God has sent to us because of their race, ethnic group or culture? “…but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him.” None are so blind than those who refuse to see.
