Jesus is the ‘suffering servant’ who
never rests in a world that demands his healing power for the desperate
celebrities and aged unknowns. The healing power of Jesus is the last resort
for the powerless of the gospel. But Jesus as a servant is also ridiculed by
others. When we go about trying to work with the young and the old to heal
the effects of racial and ethnic strife, we too will be ridiculed by those
who do not have the faith in the power of bringing Jesus to the situation. We
become the ‘suffering servants’ to the human family. We will be
called upon like Jesus when no other help can be found from other sources. We
will be called to reach out and touch others, and others will come to touch
us. This will occur sometimes in the open, and at other times in intimate
situations.
