Living the Prayer of Jesus through Racial Sobriety Year B Gospel Commentary
28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Mark 10:17-30 |
Promoting racial sobriety as a different approach to race relations can best be stated as: “Racial Sobriety is not about making bad people good, but making good people better.”
The man in the gospel wanted to be better. But he did not want to pay the price. Even Peter protested the cost that he and the disciples would have to pay to follow Jesus. No matter who we are, to get more out of life requires a cost. Our racial sobriety will cost us, but like the benefits of the Kingdom of God, we too will be rewarded. How do we find the emotional strength to push ourselves further? Jesus gives Pete and his disciple the answer: “For human beings it is impossible, but not for God. All things are possible for God.” |
