Living the Prayer of Jesus through Racial Sobriety
Year B Gospel Commentary

Mark 10:35-45
Jesus as the "suffering servant" encourages all those who are living their lives not for worldly gain, but living their life for the sake of others. So many around Jesus had the idea of what's in it for me? as Zebedee's son James and John demonstrates. But Jesus instructs them that you can share in the glory of service if you are willing to drink of the cup of pain and struggle that he will drink. They did come to understand the glory of serving. Our efforts toward building relationships in the human family enjoy divine favor as we serve. It is our joy to be in the service of the Lord.
